The Norman Course is one of four courses at Barefoot Resort, all of which are quite a solid challenge from any set of tees. But at over 7,200 yards from the tips and par 72, this is quite a fun and challenging for every type of golfer.
Designer, Greg Norman likes to keep everything as close to nature as possible when designing his courses. Seven of the holes play along the Intracoastal Waterway framed by the original vegetation and each hole maintains the natural beauty of the vistas. The Norman course is made up of wide-open greens complexes and fairways running up to the sand. His philosophy when designing this course was a to play the “bump and run” shots around the green. This allows players the option to play a number of different shots.
Norman Course allows no angular or artificial lines in the shape of the course. Bunkers have sloping white with intermittent sod wall bunkering at strategic locations throughout the course.
The greens are gently undulating and consist of an average green area of 6,300 square feet. The green surfaces consist of a Champion UltraDwarf Grass. Tees and Fairway consist of GN-1, which is a hybrid turf developed by Greg Norman Turf. The approach areas are Tifdwarf grass.
Before you hit the greens, come over to the Driving Range, a lighted facility with more than 30 acres of manicured grass. How about a lesson from the Pro? Barefoot Resort and Golf offers Dyer Golf Academy. Alasdair Dyer has over 20 years experience and can work with beginner levels up to the elite levels.
After you are done with your lesson or hitting your bucket of balls, grab a bite to eat at Putters Pub after a round of golf. The Pub consists of two large rooms, with one offering a bar, both have several tables, video games, pool tables, fireplace and 15 flat panel tv’s to watch all of the great games. The menu consists of wood-fired pizzas, seafood baskets, burgers and more. The Pub has a great happy hour too from 4-7 PM daily.
After a round, relax in the luxurious 35,000-square-foot Barefoot Dye clubhouse, which offers breathtaking views of holes 9, 10 and 18. Private member areas feature fine dining, a full fitness complex, men and women locker rooms and elegant lodging. The pro shop is filled with the finest top brands of apparel for all seasons, golf clubs, a wonderful array of embroidered logo hats, giftware, and most brands of golf balls.
The Clubhouse has a very smooth flow, with meticulous thought and care given to function in relationship to other social gathering spaces like the private members room. The clubhouse restaurant boasts panoramic views and has an outdoor patio overlooking the 18th hole of the Tom Fazio designed course and the adjacent lake.
